Project Overview
In a strategic partnership, Portbase and Exaud collaborated to develop an advanced solution for logistics in the Port of Rotterdam, integrating a mobile app with image processing and augmented reality (AR) technology with the cargo databases to streamline container data display, tracking and management. Portbase is a Dutch-based leading IT and Logistics service provider in the maritime sector, managing the digital infrastructure of all ports in the Netherlands, collaborating with shipping companies, and logistics partners to streamline and optimize port-related processes.
Solution
Exaud was challenged with integrating Augmented Reality and Computer Vision technologies into port logistics, aiming to process container data while ensuring real-time accuracy, efficient AR display, and robust security. Designing a scalable architecture, integrating a native Android app with a Cloud Backend and API, and maintaining intuitive UI/UX compatibility amidst port logistics complexities were key tasks. Exaud developed the following pragmatic solution:
- Comprehensive Mobile App and API Integration: Exaud designed a mobile app, API gateway, and status dashboard specifically for port logistics. This integrated solution utilizes both Edge and Cloud computing to deliver real-time container insights.
- User-Friendly Interface with 'Guest' and 'Staff' Modes: The app features intuitive 'Guest' and 'Staff' modes, ensuring easy access to critical container data. Staff can simply use their smartphone cameras to view container details like origin and destination, enhancing routine inspection efficiency.
- Cloud Backend and Dynamic Data Configuration: Integrated with the Portbase IT infrastructure, the solution dynamically configures information, optimizing port operations. This setup ensures real-time data accuracy and effective AR display while maintaining robust security measures.
- Scalable Architecture and Future Expansion: Exaud’s solution includes a scalable architecture that supports potential expansion to other ports. It balances port logistics intricacies with intuitive UI/UX compatibility, laying the groundwork for seamless integration and operational enhancement across various port environments.
