Application
atrify’s system database was more than 10 years old and it was time to jump-start the production of a new system, get rid of any technical debts, all while keeping most of the functionalities of the previous system. The new central database had to run under the regulatory acts, like German Packaging Act and follow ISO 27001 certification.

Industry IT
The Client
Digital.ai is an industry-leading technology company dedicated to helping Global 5000 enterprises achieve digital transformation goals. Using value stream management as its cornerstone, Digital.ai combines innovative technologies in agile planning, application protection, software delivery, and artificial intelligence into a unified Value Stream Platform. Digital.ai makes it possible to connect software development and delivery efforts to strategic business outcomes and create secure digital experiences customers trust. When we first started working on the platform, it was owned by XebiaLabs. By using Notch as a dedicated team provider, XebiaLabs managed to grow into a Gartner magic quadrant leader and merge with other leading DevOps players into Digital.ai. The project is ongoing, but the outcome of continuous effort is the leading position of XL in the DevOps market.
Client Challenge
Since digital.ai (previously XL Deploy and XL release) are niche products in the DevOps domain based on a specific technological stack (Scala, Akka, React framework, just to name a few), they needed software engineers with scarce skill sets required to support their growth. This is where our team jumps in.
The Product
XL Deploy & XL Release are leading deployment automation and release management platforms. XL Release is an enterprise release coordination software. It allows customers to plan, track, and execute release plans from code drop to the end-users. It proactively avoids release delays and failures by tracking pending tasks, risks, and dependencies. It speeds up the delivery process by replacing manual with automated tasks and standardizing release plans.
Challenges
- Challenge #1 All-around deployment - Enabling cloud deployments for the platform and from the platform.
- Challenge #2 The newest technology - Since 2016 together with digital.ai, our team is working on all-around deployment, always having the newest technology in mind. In 2022, we’re building the capability using Kubernetes technology making the product even simpler for the end customer.
- Challenge #3 Scarce technical knowledge - All this is possible with our full-stack team that covers various technologies and understands cloud deployment challenges, but also develops core features and integration components. (Scala)
- Challenge #4 A globally distributed team - digital. ai, XL Deploy & Release, teams are scattered all across the globe - from the USA to NL and India. Notch engineers are team leads to the colleagues from the digital.ai side.
- Challenge #5 Agile culture - Our teams are proficient in working using Agile methodology. Our team leads consistently act as coaches and consultants to digital.ai teams in agile methodology.
