Key additions included a paint simulator, allowing users to visualize their chosen colors on walls before committing, and a color identifier, which helps users find the closest CIN color match to any real-world shade they encounter. Problem

CIN’s app, while functional, needed a redesign to stay relevant and competitive. The challenges were:

Solution

The project involved a comprehensive redesign of the app and the introduction of two key features:

1. Paint Simulator:

• Function: Allows users to visualize how different paint colors will look on their walls before making a purchase.
• How It Works:
  • Users can either take a photo of their wall or upload an existing photo.
  • They can then apply different colors to the photo to see how they will appear.
  • Users have the option to save or share their color choices on social media.

2. Color Identifier:

• Function: Helps users identify CIN paint colors that match shades found in real-life images.
• How It Works:
  • Users take or upload a photo of a color they like.
  • They can select and identify the closest CIN color.
  • The identified color can be saved to favorites or added to their MyCIN account.

Process

1. Understanding Users:

The app was designed for users with various levels of technical knowledge and interest in interior design. The goal was to make the app flexible and easy to use.

2. Competitors Research:

We conducted research on similar apps to understand market trends and user expectations. This research led to the creation of the "Dominant Colors" feature, which shows the four predominant colors in an image.

3. CompUI Style Guide:

Design Choices:

A clean, white background to keep the focus on images and color choices.

Simplified navigation with minimal distractions.

Adapted CIN’s logo and color scheme to match the app’s aesthetic.

4. Feature Development:

Paint Simulator: Developed to allow users to test paint colors on their walls, addressing challenges such as creating an accurate mask to capture image contours and dealing with shadows.

Color Identifier: Implemented to match real-life colors with CIN’s catalog, allowing users to save and manage their color choices.

5. Testing and Optimization:

Conducted extensive testing to ensure the simulator and identifier worked accurately and efficiently.
